QUESTION
Can I network Ascent/MAS VB? Is it Client/Server?
ANSWER
Yes network access with multi-user management will be available to you if it is included as part of your licence agreement. If you wish to enable this feature please contact sales or your distributor for more information.
- On the toolbar click Open.
- Click the Change button then in the 'Select Database' window click the 'Network Connection' tab.
- In the 'Connection type' drop-down box select TCP/IP.
- In the 'Server' field enter either the server name, IP address or DNS name of the computer that holds the database.
- In the 'Path' field enter the path to the database from the server's perspective.
- Click OK to connect.
Non-networked Solution
You can share data effectively in a team environment without using a network by having separate databases for each client and sharing the data using the File>Export/Import File as Update functions. These allow you to transfer only the new recordings from one database to another and is a very effective way of transferring data between computers.

- Use File>Export Folder to File and create a .vb or compressed .vbz file with recordings from a specific date range only (the rest of the data - machine names, bearings etc is always included in the file). You have a choice of export formats that are compatible with new and earlier versions of the Ascent program.
- Use File>Import File as Update at another computer to add only the updated information to the database.
