QUESTION
Why are my exported .vb files so large compared to the original data?
CAUSE
In software versions up to (and including) Ascent 7.41, when you export your data the resulting .vb file contains not only your recordings, but also any images attached to the machines or measurement locations. These images are automatically converted to 'bitmap' (.bmp) files, regardless of the original format of the images. This image conversion process creates a very large .vb file.
SOLUTION
Upgrade to Ascent version 8.00 or later.
Users of Ascent 8.00 upwards can overcome this problem by using File>Export VB file as Update. Images will not be included in the export file.
This image conversion issue has been eliminated in Ascent 2005.
